Margaret Howett Ahearn Plaque

In Beechwood Cemetery the plaque about Margaret Howett Ahearn occupies the north side of a roadway due east of the cemetery's chapel.

MARGARET HOWETT AHEARN
1849 – 1915

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Margaret was educated at McGill Normal School and Bute Home. In 1892 she married Thomas Ahearn, after the death of his first wife. She was author of several papers and contributed to the Women's Canadian History Society, of which she was also president. She was also president of her alumnae association. Ahearn was a member of several other societies, which included the Ottawa Ladies' College, the Local Council of Women, The Local Board of Management and the Victorian Order of Nurses, and she was a director of the Women's Art Association.
