Pretoria Avenue Bridge spans the Rideau Canal where Hawthorne Avenue transitions to Elgin Street.
PRETORIA AVENUE BRIDGE
Dedicated to the members of the Centretown Community Association, Glebe Community Association, Ottawa East Community Association, supported by Action Sandy Hill, Dow's Lake Property Association and the Dalhousie Neighbourhood Improvement Committee who, from 1969, encouraged and won the co-operation of government to ensure that the residential quality of the areas adjacent to the bridge was maintained.
This bridge is an example of what may be achieved when citizens' groups, and governments co-operate in the planning process.
PONT PRETORIA AVENUE
Dédié aux membres de l'Association Communautaire du Centre-Ville, l'Association Communautaire du Glebe, l'Association Communautaire d'Ottawa-est, avec l'appui d'Action Côte-de-sable, de l'Association des Propriétaires Fonciers du Lac Dow, et du Comité des Nouveaux Impératifs Communautairs du Quartier Dalhousie qui, depuis 1969, ont encouragé et obtenu la collaboration du gouvernement en vue d'assurer le maintien du charactère résidentiel des secterus adjacents au pont.
Ce pont illustre le genre de réalisation qui est possible grâce à la collaboration de groupes de citoyens et de gouvernements.

This bridge was constructed by the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton with the co-operation of the National Capital Commission, Environment Canada and the Province of Ontario.

This bridge was designed to retain the heritage characteristics of the structure built on this site in 1917. It is a unique example of a vertical lift bridge without overhead towers. The sandstone facing on the abutments and piers is the original masonry salvaged from the old bridge.

L'ouvrange a été reconstruit en préservant les charactéristiques historiques de l'ancien pont érigé à cet endroit en 1917. C'est un example unique de pont levant sans pylône. Le parement de crès des culées et piles provient de la maçonnerie de l'ancien pont.
