Glebe Memorial Park

Glebe Memorial Park occupies a place at the west end of Glendale Avenue in Ottawa, Ontario.

During World War Two, the site that is now Glebe Memorial Park was a field with victory garden plots, where families in the neighbourhood grew some of their vegetables. Around 1951 the land was converted to a playground, named the Glendale Playground. In June, 1952, City Council on recommendation of the Recreation Commission changed the name to the Glebe Memorial Playground, "in honour of the boys from this district who gave their lives for their country." During the winter a hockey rink and a recreational rink were made in the playground, and in news about hockey games played there the playground was referred to as, the Glebe Memorial Rink. At some time later on the name was again changed. The site is now the Glebe Memorial Park.

Durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le site qui abrite aujourd'hui le parc commémoratif Glebe était un terrain vague où les familles du quartier cultivaient des potagers de guerre. Vers 1951, le terrain fut transformé en aire de jeux, baptisée « aire de jeux Glendale ». En juin 1952, le conseil municipal, sur recommandation de la commission des loisirs, la rebaptisa « aire de jeux commémorative Glebe », « en hommage aux jeunes garçons de ce quartier morts pour leur pays ». Durant l'hiver, une patinoire de hockey et une patinoire récréative y étaient aménagées, et les articles relatant les matchs de hockey qui s'y déroulaient désignaient l'aire de jeux sous le nom de « patinoire commémorative Glebe ». Plus tard, le nom fut à nouveau modifié. Le site est aujourd'hui le parc commémoratif Glebe.
