| William Thomas Delworth February 24, 1929 – October 29, 2012 |
Born near Weston, Ontario, W. Thomas Delworth earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1951 and achieved a Master of Arts degree in modern history in 1956 from the University of Toronto. In 1956 he joined the Foreign Service. Highlights of his service include Ambassador to Indonesia from 1970 to 1974, Ambassador to Sweden from 1984 to 1987 and Ambassador to Germany from 1988 to 1992. Additionally he served as Ambassador/Head of Delegation to major international Conferences on European Security in Geneva, 1974 to 1975; Belgrade, 1977 to 1978; and Sweden, 1984 to 1987. He headed the Asia Pacifid Affairs Bureau in Ottawa from 1978 to 1984, first as Assistant Undersecretary and then as Assistant Deputy Minister for Political Affairs and Special Advisor to the Deputy Minister.
He retired from the Foreign Service in 1993 and taught International Relations at Trinity College, University of Toronto and then Carleton University School of International Affairs. He was appointed Provost of Trinity College from 1996 to 2002 and to Provost Emeritus on his retirement.
In his final years he served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Opera Lyra Ottawa and Chairman of the Board of the Rockliffe Park Foundation.
