James Melville Armstrong Bench

James Melville Armstrong's Bench occupies a shady place on the south side of Lock 31 at the Smiths Falls Detached Lockstation northwest of the intersection of Abbott Street North and Lombard Street in Smiths Falls, Ontario.

James Melville Armstrong
Sept. 22, 1933–Dec.3, 2015

Jim was born in Toronto on Sept 22, 1933, attended St. Andrews College and graduated in civil engineering at the University of Toronto. Jim will be remembered for his love of sailing and the French River. His career started by working for the Canadian National Railway and ended with retiring after 24 years of service from Parks Canada, in Smiths Falls as Chief Engineer of the Rideau Canal.
