The plaque commemorating Ed Laverty occupies the face of a large rock that stands in McCarthy Park north of Paul Anka drive in the northwest corner of McCarthy Road and Paul Anka Drive.
These fields are named in recognition of the historical significance of Ed Laverty.
Edmund (Ed) Laverty was deeply passionate about sports and people. He was instrumental in the development and growth of touch football, locally, provincially and nationally.
Ed was the driving force behind the Ottawa Nepean Touch Football League (ONTFL), presided over Touch Football Ontario, and helped launch Touch Football Canada. During his 50 years as league President, Ed grew the ONTFL from six to over 100 teams through indoor and outdoor programs. He created divisions for all levels, including women's and coed categories.
Ed was a player, leader and ambassador for sports. He also raised awareness for causes such as Alzheimer's and cancer research. A recipient of the Mayor's Cup Award in 2013, the late Ed Laverty was also inducted into the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame in 2014

Durant ses 50 années à présidence de la ligue, Ed Laverty a fait passer le nombre d'équipes ce l'ONTFL de six à plus de 100 grâce aux programmes intérieurs et extérieurs. Il a créé des divisions à tous les niveaux, notamment les categories feminine et mixte.
Ed Laverty était un sportif, un chef de file et un ambassadeur des sports. Il a aussi sensibilisé la population à des causes comme la recherche sur la maladie d'Alzheimer et le cancer. Récipiendaire de la Coupe du maire en 2013, le regretté Ed Laverty a été intronisé au Temple de la renommée des sports d'Ottawa en 2014.
