DUNCAN CAMPBELL SCOTT
1862 –1947
Scott is recognized as one of Canada's Confederation Poets. His work, including several volumes of poetry and short stories was inspired by the Canadian wilderness. He is also notorious for his 52-year career in the Department of Indian Affairs. As Deputy Superintendent, Scott oversaw the assimilationist Indian Residential School System for Aboriginal Children, stating his goal was "to get rid of the Indian problem." In its 2015 report, Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission said that the Indian residential school system amounted to cultural genocide.

Scott est reconnu comme un des poètes de la confédération du Canada. Son œuvre, dont plusieurs volumes de poésie et de nouvelles, a été inspirée par la nature sauvage canadienne. Il est aussi célèbre pour ses 52 ans de carrière au Ministère des Affaires Indiennes. À titre de Surintendant Adjoint, il a observé le caractère assimilateur des pensionnats Indiens pour les enfants autochtones en déclarant qu'il visait à « se débarrasser du problème Indien ». Dans son rapport de 2015, la Commission de Vérité et Réconciliation du Cnada a mentionné que le réseau des pensionnats Indiens équivalait à un génocide culturel.
