Joseph-Thomas Duhamel

Joseph-Thomas Duhamel (6 November 1841 – 5 June 1909) was a Canadian Roman Catholic priest, the second bishop and later archbishop of Ottawa. He was born in Contrecœur, Lower Canada (now Québec). After studying at the College of Ottawa with the Oblates he was ordained by Bishop Joseph-Bruno Guigues on December 19, 1863.  Pope Pius IX appointed him Bishop of Ottawa on September 1, 1874 and he was consecrated on October 28 that year. Pope Leo XIII raised Ottawa to the status of metropolitan see on June 8, 1886 and Duhamel became archbishop. He died on June 5, 1909 in Casselman, Ontario at the age of 67.
