Monument to Canadian Aid Workers

This monument to Canadian aid workers was named REFLECTION. It is located in Rideau Falls Park, on the northeast bank of the Rideau River near Sussex Drive. John Greer of Halifax, Nova Scotia designed the monument.

REFLECTION
Monument to Canadian Aid Workers

This monument honours Canadians' commitment to
international development and humanitarian assistance
and pays tribute to all Canadians who give their lives in
pursuit of these values. The creation of the monument was
inspired by Tim Stone and Nancy Mallow, two Canadian
aid workers who were killed in 1996 while working abroad.

Unveiled by
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson C.C., C.M.M., C.D.
Governor General of Canada
June 28, 2001.

PATH Canada, the Canadian Red Cross Society, the Canadian Nurses Association
and the Canadian International Development Agency collaborated in the creation
of this monument to honour their colleagues.

The Richmond War Memorial/Cenotaph

The Richmond Cenotaph is in the Richmond Memorial Park on the southeast corner of Perth and McBean Streets. The dedication and unveiling ceremony for the cenotaph was held on November 6, 1988.

The Kars War Memorial/Cenotaph

The Kars Cenotaph is on Rideau Valley Drive South in front of the Kars Public School. The Cenotaph was built in time for the Remembrance Day ceremony in 1978. It has since been moved to it's present site in time for the Remembrance Day ceremony in 2011. The site has paving stones engraved with the names of the fallen as well as ones that have been purchased to help fund the movement and construction of the new site along with its future maintenance.

The North Gower War Memorial/Cenotaph

The North Gower War Memorial is in Horace Seabrook Park on Perkins Drive in North Gower. The park provides a very quiet peaceful environment for the cenotaph.

The Manotick War Memorial

The Manotick War Memorial/Cenotaph stands on Dickinson Street between Bridge Street and Watson's Mill in Manotick. This is quite a nice site. Just behind the cenotaph there is a picnic table that overlooks the west branch of the Rideau River.

Manotick Fire Service Memorial Oak

I went to take pictures of the Manotick fire station and while doing that I saw a post with a plaque on it. It was a dedication plaque for a memorial oak tree. The following photographs and captions have more information.

This Red Oak Tree was planted
on April 5, 2000 by the members of the
Manotick Volunteer Firefighters Association
in memory of Chief Wayne Martin
and Lieutenatn Brian Brady

May the fond memories of our colleagues
live on through the beauty of this magnificent tree.
