The Spence Team Plaque occupies a place on the west side of the grounds of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, 1500 Alta Vista Drive, south of Industrial Avenue.

John Macoun Plaque

The plaque commemorating John Macoun stands next to the pathway a the southeast corner of O'Connor Street and Argyle Avenue on the grounds of the Canadian Museum of Nature.

JOHN MACOUN
(1831—1920)

This field naturalist and botanist was the first to survey, document, and categorize Canadian flora in a systematic manner. After Confederation, he travelled west for the Canadian Pacific Railway with surveying parties and controversially concluded that a semi–arid prairie region, known as Palliser's Triangle, could sustain ranching and wheat cultivation. He amassed a vast number of botanical specimens during his lifetime, which served as the foundation of Canada's national collection. Through his publications and international exchanges of information and exemplars, he greatly enriched the emerging field of botany.

Ce naturaliste et botaniste est le premier à étudier, à consigner et à classifier systematiquement la flore canadienne. Après la Conféderation, il se rend dans l'Ouest avec des arpenteurs du Canadien Pacifique et conclut de façon controversée que les terres semi-arides de la région appelée triangle de Palliser permettent l'élevage et la culture du blé. Au cours de sa vie, il ammasse de nombreaux spécimens botaniques, qui forment la base de la collection nationale canadienne. Par ses écrits et ses échanges de renseignements et de spécimens dans le monde, il contribue largement à l'enrichissement du domaine, émergent de la botanique.

In foam as over their breast we slip.

The Poets Pathway honours Canada's poets, especially Ottawa's historic poets, and the lands that inspired them. It memorializes the literary heritage of the Confederation Poets and francophone poets of the time — the earliest voices of our distinctive Canadian tradition.

Le Parcours des poètes rend homage aux poètes du Canada, en particulier à ceux qui ont marqué l'histoire d'Ottawa et aux paysages qui les ont inspires. Il commémore l'héritage littéraire des « Poètes de la Confedération » et de poètes francophones de la même periode les premières voix distinces de la tradition canadieane.

Blood Red Memorial occupies a location in Britannia Park near the north end of Greenview Avenue on its east side.

Lansdowne Terrace

The Lansdowne Terrace heritage property occupies a location south of MacKay Street between Queen Victoria Street and Keefer Street.

157-167 MacKay Street

This Georgian inspired terrace house was named after the 15th Marquess of Lansdowne, who became the Governor General in 1883. The terrace is typical of speculative residential construction of its time, and is evidence of the transformation of New Edinburgh from a mill village to and upper middle class enclave.

Elles constituent un bon example d'habitations residentielles construites aux fins de speculation a cette époque et temoignent de la transformation de New Edinburgh qui, du village meunier qu'il était, est devenue une enclave de la haute bourgeoisie
