The blacksmith shop at the Jones Falls Lockstation occupies a place west of the downstream gate of the uppermost lock of the station near the turning bay.
Built in 1843 to provide repairs to the metal parts of lock gates, lock hardware and equipment, the blacksmith shop functioned as a repair facility for the region. It helped to keep the canal in a stated of military preparedness. Its two foot (61 cm) thick stone walls and tin roof make the structure highly resistant to fire. The Jones Falls blacksmith shop was designated as a federal heritage building on August 16, 1990.Construite en 1843 pour réparer les pièces métalliques des portes d'écluses, la quincaillerie et les équipements, la forge servait de centre de réparation pour la région. Elle contribuait à maintenir le canal en état de préparation militaire. Ses murs de pierre de 61 cm d'épaisseur et son toit en tôle confèrent à la structure une grande résistance au feu. La forge de Jones Falls a été classée monument historique fédéral le 16 août 1990.
