Bill and Marion Atwell Baseball Diamonds Plaque

The plaque commemorating Bill and Marion Atwell occupies a large rock that stands in the southwest corner of Grasshopper Hill Park. The baseball diamonds occupy most of the south side of the park. Both are north of Kilborn Avenue between Coritice Avenue at the southwest and the west junction of Featherston Drive at the southeast.

La plaque commémorative de Bill et Marion Atwell est située sur un gros rocher situé à l'angle sud-ouest du parc Grasshopper Hill. Les terrains de baseball occupent la majeure partie du côté sud du parc. Ils se trouvent tous deux au nord de Kilborn Avenue, entre Coritice Avenue au sud-ouest et l'intersection ouest de Featherston Drive au sud-est.

Bill and Marion Atwell Baseball Diamonds

These baseball diamonds are named in recognition of the extensive community service of Bill and Marion Atwell.

Bill and Marion Atwell were actively involved with the Alta Vista Little League for several decades, beginning in the 1960's.

Following his years as league president, Bill became the District Administrator for Little League Ontario District 6 in the eastern and southern areas of Ottawa. Bill remained District Administrator until his passing in 1996.

In 1987, Marion became the first female District Administrator for Little League Canada. In 2002 she was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for her volunteer work with the baseball community.

Ces terrains de baseball ont été nommés en reconnaissance de l'engagement Communautaire hors du commun de: Bill et Marion Atwell.

Pendant des dizaines d'années à compter des années 1960, Bill et Marion Atwell se sont grandement investis dans la Petit ligue Alta Vista.

En 1986, après ses années à la présidence de la ligue, Bill est devenu l'administrateur du district 6 de Little League Ontario, qui regroupait toutes les patites ligues des secteurs est et sud d'Ottawa. Bill a occupé cette function jusqu'a son décès en 1996.

En 1987, Marion est devenue la première femme à occupier la poste d'administratrice de district au sein de Petitie Ligue Canada. En 2002, son bévévolat au sein de la communauté du baseball lui a valu la Médaille du jubilé de la Reine.
