Minto Bridges

The three Minto Bridges cross the Rideau River on Union Street south of Stanley Avenue. They go over the Rideau River from the north shore to Maple Island, from Maple Island to Green Island and from Green Island to the south shore of the Rideau River.

Minto Bridges

Designed by Robert Surtees, these ornate bridges were built of lightweight steel sections and cast iron by the Dominion Bridge Company for the Ottawa Improvement Commission. Named for the fourth Earl of Minto, Governor General of Canada, the bridges were originally part of a ceremonial route from Government House to the Parliament Buildings.

Les Ponts Minto

Conçus par Robert Surtees, ces ponts très ornes ont été construits de poutrelles légères de fer et d'acier par la Dominion Bridge Company pour la Commission D'Amélioration d'Ottawa. Nommes en l'honneur du quatrième Earl of Minto, Gouverneur Général du Canada, ils devaient faire partie d'une parcours d'honneur rellant la Résidence du Gouverneur Général aux édifices du Parlement.
