This item from the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa Archives relates the story of the monument.
"The cemetery dates from 1817 and land for a rectory was donated in 1850. St. John's, Crysler was built out of stone in 1864 on land obtained from Mr. John Martin. The church was consecrated by Bishop J. Travers Lewis on June 14, 1867. A parsonage was built of wood by 1883. By 1884, it was reported to be in dilapidated condition and was demolished in 1886 to make way for a new brick church that was large enough to house the growing congregation. The second St. John's was consecrated by Bishop Charles Hamilton on October 21, 1898. St. John's was closed in 1993 due to dwindling numbers and vandalism. Church furnishings were sold and the building was demolished and razed. The last service was held on October 10, 1993 and a monument has been placed at the original site."
