Merivale United Church

The Merivale United Church stands on the west side of Merivale Road, south of Hunt Club Road and just south of Jamie Avenue.

The Merivale United Church building, built in 1875/76, replaced a log meetinghouse built about 1849. Both Arthur Hopper donated the land for the church. Ottawa Presbytery of the “Canada Presbyterian Church” ordained and inducted Reverend Robert Whillans in 1872. Reverend Whillan held services in the log meeting house during his first three years. On May 15, 1875, a congregational meeting appointed a committee to build a new church. The first worship service took place in the church now standing on the site on May 7, 1876.
