M114 HOWITZER
The 5.5 inch medium gun was developed by the Armament Research and Developlment Establishment in the late 1930's to meet a requirement for a five-inch gun to fire a projectile weighing 40.854 KG (90 LB) to a maximum range of 14,630 M (47,998 FT). The gun entered production in 1941 and was first used in action in the Middle East the following year. It served primarily with front-line units of the British Army until 1978 and was phased out of service in 1980.
