The Carleton Place Community suffered losses in World War I amd World War II. The community responded with plans for a hospital that would serve as a memorial to those men and women. Planning began immediately after World War II. In 1953 planners held a sod turning ceremony with George Doucett, Minister of Highways for Ontario doing the honours in April 1953. On February 12, 1955, the Honorable Paul Martin, Minister of National Health and Welfare for Canada, officially declared the hospital open to serve the community.
The Hospital at 211 Lake Avenue East occupies the land east of Neelin Street between Begley Street and Lake Avenue East. The hospital includes an ambulance station and a landing pad for a helicopter ambulance.
