| On the occasion of the 12th International Geological Congress held in Canada in 1913, memorial tablets honouring Sir William Logan, founder and director of the Geological Survey of Canada between 1842-1869, were unveiled at Percé, and Ottawa. The boulder to which this tablet is affixed is a glacial erratic found on the shores of the Ottawa River at Rockliffe and is typical of the Precambrian rocks first studied by Logan and named by him the Laurentian series. It was transported by scow and horse- drawn wagon to the Victoria Memorial Museum grounds. The boulder was moved to this site in 1970. À l'occasion 12e Congrès géologique international tenu au Canada en 1913, des plaques commémoratives honorant la mémoire de Sir William Logan, fondateur de la Commission géologique du Canada et son directeur de 1869, ont été inaugurées à Percé et à Ottawa. Cette plaque est fixée à un bloc erratique qui se trouvait sur la rive de la rivière des Outaouais à Rockliffe. Ce bloc est typique des roches précambriennes étudiées pour la première fois par Logan et appartenant à sa série Laurentienne. Il a été transporté par chaland et par suite sur une charette tirée par plusieurs chevaux jusqu'à un site à l'extérieur du Musée commémoratif Victoria. Il a été installé ici en 1970. |
