Sir Wilfrid Laurier Grave and Plaque

Sir Wilfrid Laurier's grave occupies a prominent location inside the main entrance of the Notre Dame Cemetery on the northwest corner of Montreal Road and St. Laurent Boulevard.

One of Canada's great prime ministers and the first French-Canadian to hold the office, Sir Wilfrid Laurier believed passionately in Canada as an English-French partnership. He shaped the Liberal Party into the most successful political party of the twentieth century.

An outstanding orator, possessing charm and intellect, Laurier held office from 1896 to 1911, a period of rapid growth, industrialization and immigreation. He died, still leader of the Opposition, in Ottawa on February 17, 1919.
