Site of the First Hospital in Ottawa Plaque

The plaque commemorating the first hospital in Ottawa will be found on St. Patrick Street just west of Parent Avenue, outside the parking lot for Notre-Dame Cathedral.

EMPLACEMENT DU PREMIER HÔPITAL D'OTTAWA
SITE OF THE FIRST HOSPITAL IN OTTAWA

This plaque is in thankful memory of Sister Élisabeth Bruyère  and those
who helped her establish on this site, on May 10, 1845, the first general
hospital in Ottawa where care would be given to the ill without
distinction of age, sex, language, race or religion.

This small hospital, originally located at 169 St. Patrick Street, was the
forerunner of the Ottawa General Hospital and the Élisabeth Bruyère
Health Centre that serves us so well today.

Installed by the Sisters of Charity at Ottawa and the Volunteers and Friends
of the Élisabeth Bruyère Health Centre and the Ottawa General Hospital.

Arden Brooks Memorial Bridge

The Greely Lions Club built the Arden Brooks Bridge dedicated to Arden Brooks who was a a great friend of the Greely Lions. The Township of Osgoode funded the bridge and the Greely Lions managed its construction. The dedication ceremony for the bridge took place on November 25, 2000. The Arden Brooks Memorial Bridge is located on the grounds of the Greely Community Centre in Greely where it crosses over Shields Creek.

This shows the bridge at the time of its dedication ceremony. As you will see the
vegetation has grown up around it. I could not get through the vegetation to take
a picture from this angle. This picture is from the Greely Lions Club web site.
