Up to now I seem to have neglected this memorial on this blog site. I worked for twelve years to make this happen. A very large number of people contributed to bringing it about.

Vietnamese Commemorative Monument

This memorial, on the corner of Somerset and Preston, "unveiled on April 30, 1995 consists of a bronze statue of a Vietnamese woman holding a child while fleeing. It is a memorial to the many Vietnamese refugees who fled their Communist homeland and were granted residence in Canada."

Monument to Fallen Diplomats

The Capital web site says this about the Monument to Fallen Diplomats, "It is dedicated to all public servants and diplomats in foreign service who have fallen while serving their country." There was not evidence whatsoever of a dedication plaque, which means anyone visiting it who does not know what it is will not find that out. There is, however, a woodburned list of designers at the back of the memorial. Most of it is made of wood and the protective coating on the wood is in desperate need of renewal. You can see the Monument to Fallen Diplomtas at the intersection of Island Park Drive and Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway in Ottawa.
